It took five sets but The Master's University men's volleyball team defeated Menlo Saturday in a come-from-behind match at The MacArthur Center.
The Oaks took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22, but TMU stormed back to take the next three 25-20, 25-22, 15-13.
"The team did a great job just competing today," said Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "Coming off a weekend in Arizona where we didn't play as well as we wanted, we did a better job of making some adjustments throughout the match."
The Mustangs (8-3, 3-2), ranked No. 4 in the most recent NAIA Top 15 poll, hit .386 compared to the Oaks' .283. TMU also had 14 blocks versus just five for Menlo.
Nolan Flexen had a career-high 26 kills and committed just three hitting errors for a .548 hitting percentage.
Bryce Jones finished with career-highs in assists (55), blocks (seven) and digs (11).
"
Nolan Flexen had a great match offensively and we also had great contributions off the bench from
Finn Kelly with his passing and
Ezra Moore putting service pressure on Menlo," Goldberg said.
Moore finished with a game-high three aces.
Will Avera also had nine kills and six blocks in the match.
The Mustangs will next travel to Fullerton to take on Hope International in a GSAC match Friday. First serve is at 6 p.m.
