The Master's men's volleyball team improved to 9-3 on the season as they defeated the Hope International Royals in three sets Friday in Fullerton, Calif. in the first of six matches over the next eight days.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 5 in the country, hit .351 in the 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 win. It is the second three-set win over HIU this season.
TMU (9-3, 4-2 GSAC) had 47 kills compared to just 22 for the Royals, a 9-5 advantage in blocks and three aces vs. none for HIU.
Braden Van Groningen led The Master's with 11 kills,
Isaac Seltzer had 10 with the Norkus brothers (Brett and Trent) each contributing eight kills. Seltzer led TMU with five blocks with
Will Avera adding another four.
Matthew Hamm led the team with 14 assists.
"We had a really strong night from the service line both in terms of limiting errors and creating service pressure," said Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "
Will Avera really led us from that front with multiple service runs.
Isaac Seltzer also did a great job offensively as our team was very efficient."
The Mustangs will be back on the road Saturday as they head to Costa Mesa, Calif. to take on No. 1 Vanguard Lions. First serve is at 7 p.m.
