The Master's men's volleyball team swept the visiting Hope International Royals in three sets 25-10, 25-21, 25-20 Saturday night in The MacArthur Center.
The Mustangs (6-2, 1-1Â
GSAC) had 51 kills compared to the Royals 23 and hit .463 for the match.
"We got some more guys some time," said Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "We got to see some people in some different positions, which is always good to see. And it's always good to be that efficient (with the hitting percentage). I care more about the efficiency because that tells more about what you did with what you were given. And for the most part our team did a very good job."
TMU set the tempo from the start, going on an 8-0 run to open the first set up 12-2. The Mustangs never let the Royals score more than a single point at a time in that set, cruising to the 15-point first set win.
Hope took the lead 4-3 in the second set before The Master's reasserted themselves with three straight points to take the lead. The Royals would take the lead 15-14, but a quick 4-0 run re-established the Mustangs' control and they went on for the four-point win.
In the third, The Master's jumped out to a 6-2 lead, only to see the Royals battle back and tie it at 12-12. But three straight points followed by another three in a row gave the Mustangs the momentum they used to win the third set 25-20 and win their first conference match of the season.
Braden Van Groningen led the Mustangs with 12 kills followed by both TrentÂ
Norkus and
Isaac Seltzer with nine. WillÂ
Avera finished with eight kills and a team-high four blocks. Both
Bryce Jones and
Diego Perez recorded a pair of aces.
The Master's will travel to Arizona next weekend to face Arizona Christian on Friday andÂ
OUAZÂ on Saturday.
