Mustangs Split Twin-Bill Against Baker

The Master's baseball team took on Baker University (KS) Saturday in a doubleheader in Fort Worth, Texas, losing the first game 11-5 but winning the second 3-1.

The Mustangs are now 12-2 on the season, averaging 10.5 runs per game with a .323 team batting average and a team OPS of 1.005.

Game 1

Mustang pitchers struggled with command against the Wildcats, walking six, hitting five batters and throwing two wild pitches in the seven-inning game.

TMU fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, got a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Ryan Mathiesen, but gave up four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth to trail 11-1. The Mustangs did get four more back in the top of the seventh to end the game 11-5.

The Master's had seven hits in the game, led by Mathiesen going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Game 2

The Master's only managed four hits in the game, but a pinch hit 2-run home run by Ty Beck in the bottom of the fourth proved to be all the Mustangs need in the 3-1 win.

Carson Knapp got the start on the bump, giving up only one earned run in 4.0 innings, four hits and striking out two. He was followed by 1.0 inning from Ian Mortensen and 2.0 from Mason Madalinski for the save. Baker only mustered one hit in the final three innings.

After posting two out in the bottom of the third and the Wildcats already leading 1-0, an error and two walks loaded the bases for the Mustangs. Miles Henderson then reached on an error, driving in Will Batz to tie the score at 1-1.

Then in the bottom of the fourth, Cason Brownell walked to set the stage for Beck. The freshman cracked his second home run of the season to give The Master's the 3-1 lead.

Evan Banks doubled in the first inning and has got a hit in each of the last six games, 11 of the first 12 games of the season. Will Batz also singled in the fourth, and he too has now hit safely in the last six games and 10 of the first 12 games.

The Mustangs will open up GSAC play on Friday when they travel to Glendale, Ariz., to take on Arizona Christian in a three-game series.
