The Master's men's volleyball team opened up their conference schedule at home against No. 3 Vanguard Friday night, but it didn't go well for the home team.
The Lions swept the No. 1-ranked Mustangs in three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-21), controlling the scoring, the tempo and the emotion of the night.
"Vanguard played very well," said TMU Head Coach
Jared Goldberg. "They won the serve and pass battle tonight. Our guys competed but they just weren't good enough. (Vanguard) kept the pressure on all night and they did a great job."
The Master's (5-2, 0-1 GSAC) hit .233 for the match, over 200 points below Vanguard's .434. The Lions also had 42 kills to the Mustangs' 30, five aces to TMU's one, and they won the block battle 5-4.
Nolan Flexen led The Master's with 10 kills, followed by
Isaac Seltzer with five and
Trent Norkus with four.
The Mustangs will be back in action Saturday night looking to get back to their winning ways as they face Hope International in The MacArthur Center. First serve is at 6 p.m.
