After four consecutive games on the road, The Master's women's basketball team returned home to the friendly confines of The MacArthur Center and beat Park-Gilbert (AZ) 90-60 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Mustangs (6-0) shot nearly 59% (38-of-65) from the field, scoring 46 of their points in the paint, and out-rebounded the Buccaneers 42-26.
Park-Gilbert was only able to score 16 points in the paint due to TMU center Maddie Cooke protecting the rim. The 6-4 senior finished with 11 rebounds and three blocks to go with her seven points.
"We were beating ourselves the first half allowing the up-tempo nature of our defense to bleed into rushed decisions offensively," said TMU Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "Maddie played great around the rim which allowed our guards to put pressure on the ball and jump in passing lanes."
Those rushed shots came from behind the 3-point line as TMU was 1-of-8 from long range in the first half. But the second half was a different story that saw the Lady Mustangs hit 9-of-16 from behind the arc to finish with 10 made 3-pointers.
"The confidence spread after the first few went it," Zamroz said. "It's great to see several people get good looks."
different players hit threes for The Master's, including a pair from
Marin Lenz who had a game-high 27 points shooting 60% from the field.
Nicole Chuang finished with 18, followed by
Lexi Hernandez with 12 and Belle Hernandez dropping 10 and adding a team-high six assists.
"We look forward to a great test next week seeing more competition from other conferences," Zamroz said.
