Lady Mustangs get road win in Washington

Laney Grider and Nicole Chuang each scored career highs and Marin Lenz dropped a season high as The Master's women's basketball team defeated the Corban Warriors 105-62 in Kirkland, Wash. Friday in the Northwest Classic.

The Lady Mustangs (3-0) reached a season-high in points scored, shooting 58.2% from the field and held the Warriors to 37% from the field defensively.

Five different players scored in double figures for TMU, led by Lenz's season-high 25. Chuang dropped 17, Grider 15 with both Belle and Lexi Hernandez netting 14 points each. Lexi came one rebound away from getting her second double-double of the season.

"We struggled to contain Hodnett defensively on the low block," said Head Coach Lisa Zamroz. "Our zone gave them some trouble and allowed us to get going offensively. Laney came off the bench and really sparked our intensity on both sides of the ball."

TMU led 49-28 at the half on 19-of-32 (59%) shooting. Grider had 12 of her 15 points in the half, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Her only miss was a 3-pointer.

Corban committed 10 turnovers in the first half, with the Lady Mustangs scoring 14 points off those turnovers. By contrast, TMU committed just three turnovers, which led to no first half points for the Warriors.

Lenz was relentless throughout the game, leading the team in steals (three) and also pulling down four rebounds. During one stretch of 1:36 in the fourth quarter, Lenz scored eight consecutive points, mostly driving and slashing to the rim, to push the TMU lead to 40.

"Huge shout out to Chloe Strachan for giving us our first charge of the season," Zamroz said. "It was definitely a shooters gym. We were firing from all cylinders."

The Master's will tip it off against tournament-host Northwest University Saturday at 12 p.m.
