Lady Mustangs Drop First Game in Indiana

It was a long night for The Master's defense as they went up against a relentless offensive attack from Taylor (IN) University to lose their first game on the Indiana road trip 3-0.

The Trojans (4-0) took 15 of their 22 shots in the first half compared to the Mustangs five, connecting on two goals. Freshman goalkeeper Autumn Jensen was kept busy in the first 45 minutes, collecting five saves in the half.

"We are Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," said Head Coach Curtis Lewis, referring to the 4-0 dominating win this past Monday. "We came out not pressing, making bad passes. There can't be such highs and such lows. Realistically we didn't have an opportunity the entire game."

The Lady Mustangs (2-4-1) came out with a different approach in the second half, getting more offensive from the opening whistle. TMU had six shots compared to the Trojans seven, and also added their only two cornerkicks later in the half. But a third goal netted by Taylor's Lauren Collins in the 73rd minute put the match out of reach.

"We were getting overloaded on our outside backs so we made some changes," Lewis said about the halftime adjustments. "We were passing fine in the middle of the field, but once we got into the front third we couldn't make any connections."

Jordyn Bingaman led the team with three shots. Ellie Radmilovich, Kate Merical and Morgan Hill each had two shots. Jensen finished with eight saves, giving her 37 in her first seven collegiate games and a 1.71 goals against average.

"Autumn has been great," Lewis said. "She has kept us in every game. I've been proud of her."

The Lady Mustangs will finish their two-game road trip on Saturday when they take on #12 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 a.m. PDT.
