It was a tall order to ask The Master's women's soccer team to beat the #12 team in the country at the end of the team's second long road trip of the season.
By the time the final horn sounded, the Mustangs had given up one first half goal and two more in the second half to the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats, losing 3-0 Saturday in Marion, Ind.
"At these top level games we need to absorb pressure," Head Coach
Curtis Lewis said. "And we did that in the first half, but we didn't create any pressure."
In the first half alone, the Wildcats took nine shots (six on goal) compared to the Mustangs one (
Hannah Burke) and added six corners with TMU having none. By the final horn, the Wildcats had tallied 15 shots to the Mustangs' three.
"The way we structured in the first half tells us we can play with the better teams," Lewis said. "But we made a decision in the second half to try to create something offensively and we just couldn't do it.
"We are trying to figure out partnerships on the field and, as a coach, it's unbelievably frustrating as we don't have any cohesion."
In addition to Burke,
Katie Caldwell and Jordyn Bingman got credit for shots. Goalkeeper
Autumn Jensen finished with five saves.
The Mustangs return home on Friday as they have a scrimmage against Vanguard before taking a two-week break to prepare for conference play.
