It may have been a non-conference match, but it was all Westmont as the Warriors scored one in the first half and added two more in the second half to defeat Master's men's soccer 3-0 Wednesday in Santa Barbara.
The Warriors got off 17 shots compared to the Mustangs nine.
"We used this game to play everyone who was healthy in the first half," said Head Coach
Jim Rickard. "Second half I subbed less and gave the starters more time. There were some encouraging things and some not so encouraging things. A couple of the goals were mistakes that we made and they capitalized on. We had a few changes on their giveaways and we couldn't capitalize on. We still have a lot to learn but we are learning."
Theo Kudlo led the team with three shots. Six other Mustangs tallied one shot apiece.
"Theo played a lot of minutes and worked hard," Rickard said. "He helped to play-make and got a few shots for himself. We have to be more dangerous closer to the goal. We are still missing speed in our attack. Ultimately, we need to get more dangerous in front of the goal."
The Warriors will play the Mustangs on Saturday, October 8, in a GSAC match on Reese Field in Santa Clarita. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
Next match for TMU will be Friday, September 23 , as the Mustangs host the Bethesda Flames on Reese Field in Santa Clarita. Kick off will be at 4 PM PDT. It will be the final non-conference match for Master's before the start of conference play in Arizona.
