TMU Track & Field set five new program records and 16 personal records in field events alone on Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite in Claremont.
Â
"It was such a blessing to witness this team worship the Lord through their performances," Master's Head Coach
Zach Schroeder said.
Â
The most notable of those new program records was the new pole vault mark set by
Caleb Pouliot, surpassing his previous best with a vault of 4.90 meters. Pouliot placed first in the event, 0.3 meters higher than the next-closest competitor. His mark of 4.90 meters ranks first in the NAIA this season.
Â
"I'm grateful for my teammates who hold me accountable for reminding me why I'm competing," Pouliot said. "They remind me to glorify God when I compete. I can forget that during competition so it's important to have them remind me."
Â
Three throwing program records were set, with
Josh Williamson breaking two (men's shot put – 14.69 meters, men's hammer throw – 25.00 meters) and
Katie Boggess (women's discus – 25.23 meters) achieving another. Williamson finished second in the shot put event at the meet.
Â
"We thank God for another opportunity for TMU throwers to use their God-given talents to worship and glorify Him," Master's Throws Coach
Searan Kiledjian said. "God blessed all our throwers with PR's and/or seasonal bests across the board."
Â
Jayk Kelton was the other Mustang to set a new field program record, breaking his previous program-best long jump mark with a leap of 6.64 meters, which placed him third in the event.
Â
Micaiah Scott finished second in the women's javelin with a season-best mark of 42.10 meters, the sixth-best mark in the NAIA this outdoor season.
Eli Szumera placed fifth in the men's event with his throw of 51.64 meters.
Â
In the 1500 meters,
Hannah Fredericks (4:30.10) finished second in the women's race, while
Davis Boggess (3:51.54) crossed the line in third in the men's portion. Both times are third-best nationally in their respective genders.
Â
Sophie Southerden placed second in the women's 5K (18:12.58), while
Colton Low (fourth place men's steeplechase – 9:57.79) and
Anthony Ghiorso (fifth place men's 800 meters – 1:53.07) also recorded top-five finishes in their respective events. Ghiorso's time ranks 10th in the NAIA this season.
Â
Master's will compete in the Mt. SAC Invite on Saturday as a final tuneup meet for the Golden State Athletic Conference Championships April 28-29.
