No. 12 TMU Men's Volleyball won the second set and led late in the third, but lost on the road to No. 3 Menlo College in Atherton on Saturday night, falling in four sets (19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25).
Â
After dropping the opening set, Master's exploded offensively in the second stanza with a .480 attack % to even the overall match at one set apiece.
Â
The Mustangs continued their momentum by scoring the first three points of the third. A
Johnny Buchanan kill later put TMU ahead 16-13, before a combined block from
Will Avera and
Diego Perez then gave Master's a 21-19 advantage.
Â
After the Oaks came back to take a 23-22 lead, a
Trent Norkus kill tied the set, before Menlo scored the final two points of the set to take a two-set-to-one advantage.
Â
A 6-1 start to the fourth set by the Oaks then proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome, as Master's dropped to 9-6 overall (2-3 GSAC).
Â
Perez (19 kills) led three Mustangs with double-digit kills, with
Ben Herb and Norkus each pitching in 11 kills of their own.
Â
Buchanan dished out a team-high 39 assists, while
Wyatt Bates led TMU's defense with 13 digs.
Â
Master's has a busy upcoming week with three matches, beginning on Monday at 7 p.m. against Marymount University inside The MacArthur Center.
