No. 12 TMU Men's Volleyball opened up a busy week with a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) over visiting Marymount University (Va.) on Monday night inside The MacArthur Center.
Â
The win is the Mustangs' 10th of the season, marking the first time in the program's three years that Master's has accomplished the feat.
Â
After a bright 5-1 TMU start to the first set, Marymount fought back to take a 17-16 advantage after scoring four-straight points.
Â
Following a Master's timeout, a
Ben Herb kill sparked a 3-0 Mustang streak that allowed TMU to retake its lead. Then with the opening set tied at 22 apiece, another 3-0 Master's run, helped by a pair of
Will Avera blocks, allowed the Mustangs to take a one-set-to-none advantage.
Â
Another timeout, this time with TMU trailing 12-18 in the second stanza, had a similar effect as the one in the first set.
Â
Master's immediately went on a 7-0 run that gave the Mustangs their first lead of the second. After the Saints tied the set on the next point, four-straight TMU points sent the home side on its way to putting the visitors on the brink of defeat.
Â
In the third and ultimately final stanza, after a back-and-forth beginning, the Mustangs pulled away in the second half of the set to complete the sweep.
Â
Herb led all players with 12 kills, while
Brett Norkus dominated at the net with seven blocks.
Johnny Buchanan dished out a match-high 34 assists.
Â
TMU returns to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Thursday against (RV) Hope International University. First serve inside The MacArthur Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
