TMU Men's Volleyball reaches double-digit wins for first time

No. 12 TMU Men's Volleyball opened up a busy week with a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) over visiting Marymount University (Va.) on Monday night inside The MacArthur Center.

The win is the Mustangs' 10th of the season, marking the first time in the program's three years that Master's has accomplished the feat.

After a bright 5-1 TMU start to the first set, Marymount fought back to take a 17-16 advantage after scoring four-straight points.

Following a Master's timeout, a Ben Herb kill sparked a 3-0 Mustang streak that allowed TMU to retake its lead. Then with the opening set tied at 22 apiece, another 3-0 Master's run, helped by a pair of Will Avera blocks, allowed the Mustangs to take a one-set-to-none advantage.

Another timeout, this time with TMU trailing 12-18 in the second stanza, had a similar effect as the one in the first set.

Master's immediately went on a 7-0 run that gave the Mustangs their first lead of the second. After the Saints tied the set on the next point, four-straight TMU points sent the home side on its way to putting the visitors on the brink of defeat.

In the third and ultimately final stanza, after a back-and-forth beginning, the Mustangs pulled away in the second half of the set to complete the sweep.

Herb led all players with 12 kills, while Brett Norkus dominated at the net with seven blocks. Johnny Buchanan dished out a match-high 34 assists.

TMU returns to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Thursday against (RV) Hope International University. First serve inside The MacArthur Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
