TMU Baseball came close to sweeping Friday's Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader with William Jessup University, but were forced to settle for a split, winning the first game 14-7 before losing the second 3-4.
Â
In the second game, the Mustangs led 2-0 after
Miles Henderson's two-RBI single. The visiting Warriors scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a one-run lead, before
Corny Miller scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.
Â
WJU re-took its lead in the next half inning, resulting in TMU being down to its final three outs.
Cason Brownell singled and Henderson doubled to advance runners to second and third with two outs. However, the Warriors were able to induce a game-ending strikeout to strand the tying and go-ahead runners on base.
Â
Jessup's game two win came after the Mustang offense exploded for 14 runs in the first game, including 13 across innings three through five.
Â
After the visitors scored four in the top of the third, Master's responded with four of its own in the bottom half, capped off by a two-RBI single from
Nolan Inouye.
Â
TMU one-upped itself in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five times, with Brownell starting things off with an RBI-single before Inouye recorded another run-scoring hit.
Â
The Mustangs added four more in the bottom of the fifth, with Henderson's two-run home run extending TMU's lead.
Â
Master's (21-13 overall, 8-10 GSAC) will complete its four-game series against William Jessup inside Lou Herwaldt Stadium on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
