William Jessup University swept TMU Baseball in Saturday's doubleheader inside Lou Herwaldt Stadium, 7-5 and 7-4, to win the four-game Golden State Athletic Conference series three games to one.
Â
The Mustangs led early in Saturday's first game, with
Cason Brownell's RBI-single giving Master's a first-inning lead.
Â
After a solo shot from the Warriors tied the game in the top of the second,
Austin Young's two-RBI base hit restored the Mustangs' advantage.
Â
WJU then scored four times in the top of the third, before TMU added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the contest.
Tommy Gwinn's single and
Will Batz' double scored runners, only for another Warrior solo homer and RBI-single in the top of the eighth to score the winning runs.
Â
Brownell went 3-for-5, as he recorded eight hits over the first three games of the series. Gwinn went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in his second start as a freshman.
Â
Master's was then unable to get much going offensively in the second game of the doubleheader until the sixth inning, by when it was already trailing 5-0.
Â
The Mustangs got three back in the sixth, one on
Miles Henderson's base hit and two more on
Nolan Inouye's run-scoring single, to get to within two.
Â
The Warriors added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to four. TMU managed to score one in the bottom half off Batz' RBI-single, but it was too little too late for the Mustangs.
Â
Master's (21-15 overall, 8-12 GSAC) hits the road next to take on Ottawa University Arizona next Friday and Saturday.
