On the back of his hot scoring streak,
DJ Wilson was inserted into the starting lineup on Saturday night. He took full advantage.
Â
Wilson scored in double figures for the fourth-straight game, leading TMU Men's Basketball to a Golden State Athletic Conference victory over visiting San Diego Christian on Saturday night, 72-55.
Â
"DJ has been playing really well the last few games and kept it rolling tonight," Master's Head Coach
Kelvin Starr said. "He really broke open the game for us in the second half."
Â
Wilson (4-for-7 from 3-point range) scored 14 of his game-high 19 points after halftime, as Master's pulled away from San Diego Christian.
Â
In a tightly-contested opening half, TMU turned a one-point deficit with nine minutes remaining into an eight-point advantage going into the break.
Â
Master's then opened the second half on a 20-6 run to take a game-high 22-point lead with 13 minutes to play, helped by a pair of Wilson 3-pointers.
Â
The visitors fought back to within 10 at the six-minute mark, before the Mustangs held off any hopes the Hawks had of a comeback.
Â
Nearly all five of TMU's starters scored double-digit points, with
Gavin DeJong (13 points, 10 rebounds),
Jordan Starr (12 points, five assists) and
Kaleb Lowery (11 points, eight rebounds) joining Wilson in double figures.
Ryan Beddeo nearly made it all five starters, just missing out on double-digit scoring with his nine points.
Â
With the win, Master's improves to 16-8 overall (6-8 GSAC).
Â
"Defensively we were solid again tonight,"
Kelvin Starr said. "It's crazy how tough and tight the GSAC is this year. Multiple teams are within one game of fourth place with only two weeks to go."
Â
TMU next plays at Life Pacific University in San Dimas on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
