TMU Baseball splits with Westmont on second day of series

TMU Baseball split with Westmont College in Saturday's doubleheader, winning the first game 8-4 before falling 3-4 in game two.

Zachary Jimenez earned the win on the mound in game one, pitching six innings while only giving up two runs.

With the Mustangs trailing 2-0 after the first inning, a Joe Terlizzi RBI-double and a Davis Beavers run-scoring single tied the game in the top of the second.

Beavers then gave Master's the lead in the fourth with a two-RBI base hit. In the sixth, Austin Young's double and Terlizzi's single added two more Mustang runs.

After Westmont scored twice in the seventh to cut TMU's lead to 6-4, Will Batz blasted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring.

In game two, with the Mustangs trailing 3-0, Master's tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth. Terlizzi's double to left scored one, before pinch hitter Kobe Katayama hit a two-RBI single.

The Warriors regained their lead in the bottom of the sixth and then claimed the overall series victory by recording the final three outs of the second game, three-up three-down.

Spencer Long pitched six innings, while only giving up two earned runs and striking out seven.

Master's (13-8 overall, 3-5 GSAC) hit the road again next week to take on Menlo College in Atherton on Friday and Saturday.
