Master's drops regular season finale

TMU Men's Basketball couldn't overcome a slow offensive start in a 59-72 Golden State Athletic Conference road defeat to Menlo College in the teams' regular season finale.

With the result, Menlo earned the sixth seed in the upcoming GSAC Tournament and a subsequent first-round bye, with Master's dropping to the seventh spot.

"We struggled to score the ball again in the first half," Master's Head Coach Kelvin Starr said. "We continue to guard the ball well enough to win, but we just have to convert our open looks at a higher clip."

The Oaks limited the Mustangs to just 20 first-half points, the third time TMU has been held to 20 points in an opening half this season, as Menlo took a 17-point lead into halftime.

Master's then almost doubled its first-half output with 39 points in the second stanza, outscoring Menlo by four after halftime.

Towards the midway point of the second period, a 9-0 TMU run got the Mustangs to within six with 11:27 remaining, but that was as close as Master's would get.

Kaleb Lowery recorded a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Davian Brown pitched in 16 points off the bench. Jordan Starr made it three Mustangs in double figures with 10 points.

Master's (18-11 overall, 7-11 GSAC) opens up the GSAC Tournament, which will be hosted in Fullerton by Hope International University, against San Diego Christian on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.

The Mustangs and Hawks split their matchups in the regular season, each winning on their home floor.
