It was the fourth five-set match the Lady Mustangs have played in the last six contests, and despite three different players getting double-digit kills, Master's could not hold off OUAZ in the final set.
After the Spirit won the first set, the Lady Mustangs () turned up their intensity and snatched the second set 25-21 and the emotionally charged third set 26-24. But OUAZ turned that emotion around in the fourth set in dominating fashion, winning 25-15 before cruising to a 15-6 final set win.
"Our girls have the talent to stick with anyone," said Master's Head Coach
Annett Davis. "They've shown that. We need a little more internal push to get us on the winning side."
Ruby Duncan led Master's with 14 kills followed by
Faith Tarver's 12 and
Emily Clark's season-high 11 kills.
"
Emily Clark did a great job finding holes in the block and consistently hit strong for us today, which is something that helped us significantly," Davis said.
The middle blockers have continued to play stellar defense, ranking No. 1 in the GSAC in blocks at better than two per set. The middles continued to be a wall against OUAZ as they put up 11 blocks in the five sets, once again led by Jessi Swenning's six total blocks and
Breanna Brooks' five.
The Lady Mustangs will be on the road Tuesday for their next match against San Diego Christian in Santee, Calif. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
