They needed a win that turned into a dominating performance as Master's women's volleyball took care of the visiting Life Pacific Warriors in three sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 Saturday afternoon in The MacArthur Center.
The win brings the Lady Mustangs (12-9, 7-7 in GSAC) to within half a game of the sixth and final post-season spot in the GSAC standings.
"The girls played confident, disciplined, consistent volleyball today," said Head Coach
Annett Davis.
You could also add the adjective "relentless" to the list. Case in point... Life Pacific had jumped out to a 14-7 lead midway through the second set. That's when Master's wrestled away the Warrior's momentum by scoring the next eight points to grab a 15-14 lead. They closed out that second set on an 18-4 run to snatch the set victory.
Overall, Master's had 34 kills to the Warriors 26, eight aces to their five and five blocks to LPU's four.
Ruby Duncan led the team with 10 kills, followed by both
Cora Machado and
Faith Tarver getting seven each.
"
Ruby Duncan performed at an extremely high level, terminating balls with some high velocity today," Davis said. "
Cora Machado made excellent choices on whether to swing or tip today, as well as being patient on her sets and finding open spots."
Karli Stults added 19 digs in the match to bring her career total up to 967. She needs just 40 more to move into the top 10 all-time in career digs in program history, 41 more to move into the top 9. She will have a chance to notch her name in the history books this Friday and Saturday as Master's will have their final home games of the season against San Diego Christian and Vanguard. The match Saturday against the Lions will be Senior Night, with the festivities getting underway before the first serve at 7 p.m.
