Women's Volleyball Wins; Stults Moves Into 9th All-Time

It took five extra days but Master's women's volleyball team was able to finish the match against San Diego Christian, getting the win in three sets 25-20, 25-14, 25-23.

The match was suspended last Friday when a transformer malfunction caused The MacArthur Center, as well as the entire campus and much of the surrounding area, to lose power.

And while the win helped Master's (13-10, 8-8 in GSAC) chances to get into the post-season conference tournament, the night really belonged to senior Karli Stults who moved into 9th on the all-time Digs list.

"Karli had a fantastic match with over 20 digs," said Head Coach Annett Davis about her libero who finished with 26 digs. "She has been a superstar for us on the digging and passing front. She has been zoned in passing a 2.0 or higher in over 70 percent of our matches and doing a phenomenal job as a leader. I'm so proud of the growth she's shown this season."

Stults moved past both Aubrey Bekendam (1,006) and Beth Avila (1,007) to claim the ninth spot all-time with her 1,011 career digs. She would need to get 82 more to catch Amanda Roleder's 1,093 to move into eight all-time.

In the match against the Hawks, the Lady Mustangs easily took the second set after it was resumed at 15-9. Master's closed it out on a 10-5 run, hitting .412 in that second set. For the match, the Lady Mustangs hit .215 with 38 kills in the three sets as well as seven blocks.

The third set started out all San Diego Christian, as the Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead and stretched that to a five-point advantage at 15-10. A timeout by Master's righted the ship as the Lady Mustangs were able to go on an 8-2 run to take the lead 18-17. SDCC then went on a 5-1 run to take the score to 22-19 and force another TMU timeout.

Master's got two points before a Hawks block took it to 23-21 San Diego Christian. But Master's was able to get the final four points in a row to win the set 25-23 and take the match 3-0.

The Lady Mustangs will finish the regular season this weekend in Northern California in two must-win matches. First they travel to Rocklin on Friday to take on the William Jessup Warriors who are 10-6 in conference. That match starts at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday they will be in Atherton to take on the 8-8 Menlo Oaks. With Master's and Menlo currently tied for the sixth and final spot in the GSAC post-season tournament. It could come down to a win-and-you're-in match. First serve against the Oaks will be at 2 p.m.
