It's a bitter pill to swallow when a rival wins on your floor.
But that's what happened Saturday as Master's women's volleyball lost a four-set match to the visiting Westmont Warriors in The MacArthur Center 15-25, 26-24, 15-25, 21-25.
The Lady Mustangs (10-9, 5-7 GSAC) hit .113 for the match compared to Westmont's .218, with the Warriors also getting the advantage in kills with 57 compared to TMU's 38.
Jessi Swenning led Master's with eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage, followed by
Ruby Duncan,
Breanna Brooks and
Faith Tarver all tallying seven.
"Jessi Swenning is continuing to hit at a high level," Davis said. "Week after week she is surpassing our hitting goals."
The one area Master's controlled was the block. Coming into the match, the Lady Mustangs were No. 1 in the GSAC averaging 2.06 blocks per set. Against the Warriors, Master's accumulated eight blocks to Westmont's four, with Swenning collecting a game-high five assisted blocks in the match.
"We have a lot of big girls on our team," said Master's Head Coach
Annett Davis. "Our goal is stuff a lot of balls and literally be the first line of defense. We had a lot of good touches tonight. But Westmont was a bit more scrappy on defense and we just couldn't terminate with our hitting."
Master's will next travel to Fullerton to take on Hope International this Friday, Oct. 21. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
