Lack of outside shot dooms TMU Men's Basketball in road loss

TMU Men's Basketball could not get its outside shot going, shooting just 1-for-12 from 3-point range in a 69-73 road loss to San Diego Christian on Thursday night in Golden State Athletic Conference action.

That single made 3-pointer came with 8:22 remaining in the first half, with DJ Wilson giving Master's a 17-14 lead.

The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the opening half, before a San Diego Christian triple gave the home side a two-point halftime advantage.

TMU regained its lead early in the second half, with dunks by Kaleb Lowery and Gavin DeJong, followed by a Lowery jumper, putting the Mustangs up by six after three-straight possessions.

With Master's ahead by six with 13:55 remaining, the Hawks went on a 10-0 run to give SDCC a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

A three-point play from Caden Starr made it a one-possession game with 45 seconds to play, before the Mustangs forced a Hawks turnover, giving them a chance to tie. However, TMU's 3-point shooting woes doomed Master's, as the Mustangs came up empty on a game-tying triple.

San Diego Christian added a free throw late to put the game out of reach, ending TMU's 13-game winning streak in the series between the two teams.

DeJong led Master's in scoring with 25 points, while Lowery contributed 20 of his own. Davian Brown joined them in double figures with 10 points, with Jordan Starr pitching in nine assists and nine rebounds.

TMU (12-5 overall, 3-5 GSAC) is set to return to conference play on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., when the Mustangs are scheduled to take on Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.
