TMU Women's Volleyball was swept in its final two matches of the C of I Fall Classic on Saturday, falling to No. 14 Eastern Oregon University and Carroll College (Mont.).
Â
In the morning match, Eastern Oregon took down the Mustangs by set scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22. In the first set, the Mountaineers raced out to leads of 8-1 and 11-3. Master's steadily clawed its way back, to as close as three at 17-14 after scoring five-straight points, but TMU's early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Â
The second set was tightly contested and was tied as late as 13-13, but EOU pulled away to win by a six-point margin and take a two-set-to-none advantage. TMU saved its best volleyball for last, leading by as many as three and as late as 18-16, but a 5-0 Mountaineer run gave Eastern Oregon a lead it would not relinquish.
Â
Faith Tarver was the lone Mustang with double-digit kills (10), while
Natalie Collins dished out 33 assists. Defensively,
Karli Stults and
Brooke Scott each recorded double-digit digs with 11 and 10 respectively.
Â
In the second match, Carroll took immediate control on its way to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-17 victory. The Saints used separate 6-0 and 5-0 runs to win the first set in dominant fashion.
Â
The Mustangs kept the second set much closer, as two
Emily Scott kills helped TMU score five-straight points and take a 10-6 lead in the set. Master's maintained its advantage, leading 20-16, but Carroll scored nine of the next 10 points to take a two-set lead.
Â
That comeback put the momentum completely on the Saints' side, as Carroll started and finished strong in the third set to complete the sweep.
Â
Emily Clark led the Mustang attack with her 12 kills, while Collins posted an impressive stat line of 29 assists and 14 digs to lead the team in both categories.
Emily Scott tallied four blocks to go along with her six kills.
Â
After beginning the season with eight road matches across two tournaments, Master's (2-6 overall) finally returns home on Friday when TMU hosts Occidental College inside The MacArthur Center at 6 p.m.
