TMU Baseball bounced back from a shutout 6-0 loss to OUAZ in the first game of Friday's Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader to win the second game, 3-2.
Â
The Spirit limited the Mustangs to just three hits in game one, with those coming off the bats of
Miles Henderson,
Joe Terlizzi and
Kameron Quitno, who hit a double.
Austin Ruiz pitched 3.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen, but TMU was unable to overcome its deficit.
Â
However, the Master's offense found life in the second game when
Roy Verdejo led off the second inning with his 13th home run of the season, which is second-most in the GSAC.
Â
The Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth inning off a
Will Batz RBI-triple, which scored
Nick Tuttle, followed by a Quitno RBI-single to plate Batz.
Â
OUAZ scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to get to within one, but
Ethan Schmidt came on in relief to record the final four outs in shutout fashion to earn the save.
Â
Aidan Stout earned the win on the mound, his fourth of the season, after pitching 5.2 innings and striking out six batters, while only giving up two runs.
Â
Ryan Bricker, who is now hitting .407 on the season, went 3-for-4 with two doubles in the second game, while Quitno also recorded multiple hits.
Â
Master's (23-15 overall, 4-6 GSAC) and OUAZ (18-17, 7-3) meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., with the Mustangs currently three games behind the Spirit in the GSAC East standings with just six conference games remaining.
