The Master's University men's basketball team used a combination of highlight-reel dunks and efficient shooting to defeat Bethesda University, 92-56, on Friday night inside The MacArthur Center.
"It was fun to see the guys celebrate each other's success tonight," Master's head coach
Kelvin Starr said.
TMU led by one halfway through the first half, but a 10-0 run sparked by two
Gavin DeJong dunks sent Master's on its way, developing a 44-23 lead going into halftime.
DeJong wasn't the only Mustang to fly high above the rim, with teammates
Kaleb Lowery,
Albert Matute and
LeRoy Thompson joining in on the dunk fest.
Matute (14 points) shot a perfect four-for-four from 3-point range, making half of the Mustangs' eight long balls.
Kaleb Lowery (23 points, seven rebounds) and DeJong (18 points, six rebounds) combined to shoot a flawless 19-19 from the field.
"Albert shot the lights out and Gavin and Kaleb going a combined 19-19 from the floor was impressive," Starr said.
Thomas Lowery added seven points and eight rebounds, as the Mustangs' largest lead of the game was its final margin of victory, 36 points.
The two teams return to Bross Court on Saturday at 7 p.m.
