Of late, Albert Matute can't miss from beyond the arc. At least it feels that way.
When it comes to Gavin DeJong, the statement is literally true — but from much closer range.
DeJong made all 10 of his shot attempts Saturday in TMU Men's Basketball's 112-79 win over Bethesda University at TMU. The veteran center has connected on his last 19 shots — almost exclusively in the paint — going back to Friday night, and he's made 28 of his last 29 over the last three games.
DeJong led the Mustangs with 20 points Saturday.
Matute has been on the money, too.
The freshman guard made 5-of-10 threes on Saturday on the way to a career-high 17 points. He was 4-for-4 from long distance on Friday when the Mustangs beat Bethesda 92-56.
Kaleb Lowery added 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting Saturday. He went 19-for-21 for the weekend.
Ryan Beddeo had 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Davian Brown rounded out the Mustangs in double-figure scoring with 12 points and four assists. TMU had a season-best 34 assists overall on the way to a season-high in scoring.
Saturday was also the first time since the season opener on Nov. 10 that TMU eclipsed the 100-point mark. In head coach Kelvin Starr's five seasons, the Mustangs are 35-1 at home against non-conference opponents.
