TMU Baseball pulled away late from Bethesda University in the first game of Tuesday's home doubleheader to win 10-5, before dominating the second game by a score of 17-0.
Â
The Mustangs scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. A
Roy Verdejo walk,
Will Batz hit by pitch,
Miles Henderson groundout and
Joe Terlizzi sacrifice fly scored the four runs for Master's.
Â
Bethesda then scored twice to cut TMU's lead in half before a
Brock Bell sacrifice fly and
Byron Smith single restored Mustangs' four-run lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Flames scored three in the top of the seventh to get to within one, but three RBIs from Henderson over the next two innings helped Master's stretch out its lead to five.
Â
A Henderson RBI-triple scored the Mustangs' first run in the bottom of the seventh, with another Terlizzi sacrifice fly scoring the other. Henderson then hit a two-RBI single in the eighth to set a career-high with four RBIs.
Â
Kameron Quitno earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings while only giving up a single run.
Â
After scoring four runs in the first inning of game one, Master's then scored six runs in the first inning of the second game. A two-RBI single from
Nolan Inouye and an RBI-triple from
Jeremiah Farris were the highlights of the Mustangs' fast start.
Â
TMU added one run in the third before tacking on two more in the fourth, capped off by an Inouye RBI-double that put Master's ahead by double digits. The Mustangs then scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to round out their scoring.
Â
Nate Lingerfelt's RBI-single started the seven-run fifth, with
Tim Compomizzi's walk scoring another.
Cason Brownell's double and then
Benjamin Johnson's single each scored two runs each.
Â
Nelson Schutte (three innings, two strikeouts),
Austin Ruiz (two innings, two strikeouts) and
Cameron Jones (two innings, five strikeouts) combined to pitch the seven-inning shutout.
Â
Master's (22-14 overall, 3-5 GSAC) is scheduled to return to the diamond on April 9-10 with a four-game Golden State Athletic Conference series in Surprise, Arizona against OUAZ (16-15, 6-2).
