Early goal doesn't hold up in TMU Women's Soccer draw with William Jessup

Kyndel Borman scored her fifth goal of the season to give The Master's University women's soccer team an early lead over William Jessup, but the Mustangs conceded a penalty kick goal soon thereafter, as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in Rocklin on Wednesday morning.

"Three games in a row we've gone up 1-0 and three games in a row we didn't get the full points," Master's head coach Curtis Lewis said. "We have to get better at using our dominant possession to get results. Giving up a PK each of the last three games has been extremely difficult as well."

Borman, who scored a seventh-minute goal last week against Life Pacific, put TMU ahead in just the 13th minute of play off an assist from Elizabeth Radmilovich. The duo also combined for a goal in a 3-1 Golden State Athletic Conference win over Jessup on Feb. 25.

"We played really well in the first half and scored off a short corner, Elle to Kyndel," Lewis said.

The Warriors answered right back just eight minutes later from the penalty spot. The Mustangs outshot the home side 11-3 in the first half, but only forced one Warrior save in the opening 45 minutes as the two teams remained tied at the break.

"Overall we did some really good stuff, but we need the final product to come to fruition more often," Lewis said.

The shot margin in the second half was much more even, 9-8 in favor of Master's. TMU still forced four saves out of the WJU goalkeeper, who prevented the Mustangs from finding the back of the net for a second time.

"We weren't as dominant in the second half but still had the better of the chances," Lewis said.

The game remained tied through regulation, resulting in extra time. William Jessup outshot Master's 6-4 in the two overtime periods, including one that went off the post, but Emy Ramirez recorded three of her four saves to preserve the 1-1 draw.

"David Nolan has gone a good job with their team," Lewis said. "They are organized and hard to break down."

Master's (5-4-2 overall, 2-2-1 GSAC) returns home to Reese Field for the final three games of its conference schedule, beginning with a March 24 matchup with Ottawa University Arizona (5-0-1, 4-0). Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.

"We need to use these next three games to really improve and show that we are a top-level team," Lewis said.
