Brubaker's career night leads Mustangs over Bulldogs

A career night from Ella Brubaker led eighth-ranked TMU Women's Basketball to a 90-60 victory over visiting University of Redlands on Thursday night inside The MacArthur Center.

Brubaker paced the Mustangs with 36 points and nearly recorded a double-double with her nine rebounds. Both marks set new career-highs.

"Ella was dominant on both ends tonight," Master's Head Coach Lisa Zamroz said. "I'm proud of her effort and joy for the game. She's playing great. Her performance was fun to watch."

The Mustangs raced out to an immediate 12-2 lead just over four minutes into the game, helped by two Allyson Pettit 3-pointers. Then a 3-point play from Brubaker extended TMU's advantage to a quarter-high 14 before Master's took an 11-point lead, 26-15, after 10 minutes of action.

TMU added 25 more points in the second quarter, as the Mustangs scored 50-or-more points in the first half of a game for the third time this season and in the second-straight contest.

Master's outscored Redlands by six points in the third quarter, to turn a 13-point halftime advantage into a 19-point lead heading into the fourth. Pettit was fouled on a 3-point try just before the third-quarter buzzer sounded and promptly sank all three free throws to add to the Mustangs' cushion.

TMU then held the visitors to just seven points in the fourth, as Master's pulled away late to win by 30.

With the victory, the Mustangs continue their unbeaten start to the season, as TMU now sits 12-0 on the campaign.

"We've struggled taking care of the ball this semester," Zamroz said. "Our decision-making was much improved and I'm looking forward to building on that trend."

Stephanie Soares tallied her 12th-consecutive double-double with her 14 points and 11 rebounds. Pettit (14 points, four rebounds) and Giani Wimbish-Gay (11 points, nine assists) made it four Mustangs in double figures.

"Ally was locked in from three which opened up everything else," Zamroz said. "Stephanie got in foul trouble early but was still able to bring her consistent double-double.

"Giani and Rebekah Throns combined for 14 assists and zero turnovers. That was huge."

Master's next travels to Riverside to take on La Sierra University on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
