Mustangs continue winning ways entering Christmas break

Eighth-ranked TMU Women's Basketball beat La Sierra University for the second time this season, continuing their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 74-46 road victory over the Golden Eagles in Riverside on Saturday night.

The Mustangs started quickly once again, scoring 26 points in the first quarter for the third-straight game.

La Sierra held an early 8-4 lead, only for TMU to score the next 13 points as part of a 20-2 run to grab control of the game.

"We were able to capitalize in transition to create some early momentum," Master's Head Coach Lisa Zamroz said.

Coming off a career-high 36-point game on Thursday, Ella Brubaker continued her strong scoring output with 11 first-quarter points, with Stephanie Soares pitching in nine of her own.

"Several players created some crafty assists for Steph, who did a really nice job finding the gaps in their zone," Zamroz said.

After Master's led by 12 points following the opening quarter, the Mustangs held the Golden Eagles to six points in the second, helping TMU develop a 25-point halftime advantage.

Master's managed its lead the rest of the way, leading by as many as 36 late in the third quarter before winning by a final margin of 28.

"The rebounding margin was only three at half, so I was proud of our extra effort in the second half to end plus-16," Zamroz said.

Soares (25 points, 10 rebounds) finished with her 13th-consecutive double-double, while Brubaker (18 points) and Allyson Pettit (11 points) joined her in double figures.

TMU (13-0 overall) will now take a week-long Christmas break before returning to campus in preparation for a 3 p.m. home game vs. Northern New Mexico College on Dec. 30.

"I'm excited to see us end the semester well and take this forward momentum into Christmas break," Zamroz said.
