Oaks fight off Mustangs in GSAC action

TMU Women's Volleyball was competitive in each set, but the Menlo Oaks swept the Mustangs in Golden State Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon by set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 29-27.

In the first set, trailing 14-20, two Emilye Grace Williams kills helped Master's fight back to within two, 19-21. But the Oaks scored four of the final five points to claim the opening set.

TMU then led 18-16 in the second set, before five-straight Menlo points gave the home side the lead. Master's responded with a 3-0 run of its own to tie the set at 21 apiece, only for the Oaks to once again score four of the final five points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Master's looked likely to force a fourth set, leading by as many as five points in the third. A Ruby Duncan kill put TMU ahead 23-20, but Menlo quickly evened the set at 23-23. Three Williams' kills gave Master's three different set points, but the Oaks fought off each one before closing out the match by scoring three-straight points to claim the set and the overall match.

Williams led the Mustang attack with 11 kills, while Duncan and Emily Scott each contributed seven. Natalie Collins dished out 30 assists. Karli Stults and Faith Tarver tied for the team lead with 13 digs.

TMU (8-19 overall, 4-13 GSAC) concludes its regular season on Nov. 13 with a home match against (RV) Westmont College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
