Mustangs fall to Warriors in Rocklin

TMU Women's Volleyball posted a .303 attack % in a second-set victory that tied Friday evening's match against William Jessup. But the Warriors limited the Mustang offense to win the final two sets and take the match by set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15.

In the opening set, Master's held slim early leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but a 4-0 run by Jessup gave the home side a lead it would not relinquish. Midway through the set, WJU scored nine of 10 points to take a double-digit advantage, which was ultimately extended to 12, its final margin of victory in the first set.

The Mustangs, as they often have this season, showed lots of resolve in responding to win the second set. TMU's lead in the second increased to as many as five at 13-8, only for Jessup to score five-straight points to tie the set.

The Warriors then took the lead, as late as 23-21, before Master's scored the final four points of the set to even the match overall. Kills by Ruby Duncan and Faith Tarver tied the set at 23-23, with Duncan adding a solo block to put the Mustangs ahead and Emilye Grace Williams clinching the set with a service ace.

A second-set loss seemed to motivate WJU, who came out swinging in the third set with a .417 attack %. Simultaneously, the Warriors held TMU to a -.069 attack % after forcing the visitors into 11 attacking errors, more than the nine Jessup committed for the entire match.

After winning the third set by 11, the home side won its third set of the match by a double-digit margin, helped by a 7-1 start to the fourth.

Duncan led Master's in three statistical categories – kills (14), service aces (three) and blocks (two). Tarver nearly recorded a double-double with nine kills and nine digs, while Natalie Collins dished out 30 assists.

Master's (8-18 overall, 4-12 GSAC) concludes its northern California road trip on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Menlo in Atherton.
