Despite outshooting Hope International, TMU Women's Soccer suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday, falling by a score of 3-0.
"The game obviously did not go the way we wanted it to go," Master's Head Coach
Curtis Lewis said. "Credit HIU for coming out with energy and making it difficult for us in the first half."
Â
The Royals scored all three of their goals in the first half of play, each 10 minutes apart, in the 13th, 23rd and 33rd minutes. HIU converted on three of its six shots in the half, outshooting the Mustangs by two in the opening 45 minutes.
Â
Master's picked up its offensive pressure in search of a comeback, holding a 9-2 advantage in shots in the second half. But TMU was unable to find the back of the net with any of its five shots on goal.
"We played much better in the second half and had several quality opportunities that were thwarted, but the damage was done and we just couldn't put one away today," Lewis said.

Reigning Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week
Jordyn Bingaman recorded three of the team's five shots on goal, with
Kayla Monick and
Katie Caldwell also putting shots on target.
Â
It was the third time the Mustangs have been shutout this season. The three goals conceded are the most TMU has given up this season, and only the second time in 10 games Master's has allowed multiple goals.
Lewis appreciated Hope International praying before the game for his daughter Natalie, who continues her recovery from complications from her April heart surgery.
"It really shows that we are just playing a game," Lewis said. "May our hearts be aligned with His and may we bear one another's burdens."

TMU (6-1-3 overall, 2-1 GSAC) returns to conference play next Saturday at No. 19 Westmont College.
