First-half goal lifts (RV) OUAZ over TMU Women's Soccer

TMU Women's Soccer was unable to overcome a first-half deficit in a 1-0 defeat to visiting Ottawa University Arizona on Thursday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference action.

The Spirit, receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, broke the deadlock in the 27th minute of play.

After the Mustangs initially headed away an opposing corner kick, OUAZ served the ball back into the box, where a Spirit forward was waiting. The TMU back line stepped to try and draw OUAZ offside, but the visitors were ruled to have stayed onside, leaving the Spirit one-on-one in front of the net to score what proved to be the winning goal.

Master's outshot OUAZ 11-10 for the match, but failed to really threaten the Spirit goal, as the Mustangs were shutout for the fourth time this season. After beginning 2021 unbeaten through nine games, Master's has now lost three-straight.

TMU (6-3-3 overall, 2-3 GSAC) returns home on Saturday for a conference matchup against Arizona Christian, which will be Senior Day.
