Box Score
The Master's University women's basketball team suffered a 63-48 loss to Benedictine University Mesa on Monday in Mesa, Ariz.
Freshman
Ella Brubaker scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs (2-2) in scoring for the third time in the team's first four games.
Jessica Soares followed with eight points and nine rebounds.
The loss — coupled with a 79-66 defeat at the hands of Arizona Christian on Saturday — said something both about the challenges of a start-and-stop season (before Friday, the Mustangs had endured a 70-day layoff between the first two games of the year) and about how elite Master's has been in recent years. This marked the first time the team has lost back-to-back games since March 2018.
Monday,
Tristen Coltom scored six points, and
Anika Neuman and
Liv Tjoelker each added five for the No. 4-ranked Mustangs. Tjoelker also had five steals.
For Brubaker, this was the third time this season she's scored in double figures. She had 21 in a win over Park University Gilbert on Friday night that kicked off a three-game swing through Arizona. She had nine points against Arizona Christian on Saturday.
