When Master's indoor volleyball head coach Annett Davis first watched Ruby Duncan play, Duncan left a lasting impression.
"I saw an athlete who enjoyed her teammates and led on the court with a quiet but engaged determination to win," Davis said.

Over the course of a dazzling four-year varsity career at Hart High, Duncan only further impressed her future college coach, developing into one of the Santa Clarita Valley's best players and, at 6-feet tall, someone capable of filling multiple positions along the net.
"Ruby is an all-around strong athlete and will be a consistent and reliable stone in this team's foundation," Davis said of the 2019 Foothill League Player of the Year.
Duncan helped Hart win three Foothill League titles, maintaining a GPA above a 4.0 in each year. She accrued 198 kills as a senior on her way to being named first-team All-Santa Clarita Valley by The Signal newspaper.
As for picking a college, she said she chose Master's because she wanted to continue her academic and volleyball career in a Christian environment.
"At Master's, I'll be pushed to further my walk with Christ and everyone at TMU genuinely cares for one another," said Duncan, who plans to study liberal arts with an eye toward a career as an elementary school teacher. "Being able to play with other Christian teammates was very appealing when I was looking at different schools."
Duncan hopes to be an impactful contributor. She said her goals are to help lead the Mustangs to Golden State Athletic Conference titles and to be among the best players in the GSAC.
The Mustangs, who compete in one of the most competitive volleyball conferences in the NAIA, finished last season 18-12, reaching at least that many wins for the eighth time in nine years.
