The Master's University men's basketball team will go into the Christmas break on a six-game winning streak. And in the process of beating San Diego Christian 78-55 on Monday night inside the MacArthur Center, the Mustangs also underscored a more impressive fact.
Master's has now amassed a 30-1 record in home games against non-conference opponents in
Kelvin Starr's five seasons as head coach. San Diego Christian and TMU both play in the Golden State Athletic Conference, but Monday's game was scheduled outside of conference play.
Jordan Starr led the Mustangs with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Kaleb Lowery followed with 14 points and five rebounds. And
Davian Brown added 10 points.
The Mustangs (6-0) ran out to a 44-21 halftime lead on the strength of 62% shooting from the field. Master's made 5-of-8 three-point tries in that span, including one that came two seconds before the intermission buzzer when Lowery leaned into a long one.
Lowery also punctuated the start of the second half, driving into the paint in the opening minute and completing a one-handed flush. The freshman has now scored in double figures in each of his first six college games.
Starr used his 6-foot-7 frame to finish in traffic around the paint, connecting on 9-of-15 shots Monday. He received plenty of support on a balanced scoring night from the Mustangs.
Albert Matute and
Gavin Lloyd each chipped in eight points. Lloyd added 10 rebounds.
Gavin DeJong had seven points, and
Caden Starr had a strong all-around line with six points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Mustangs outscored San Diego 38-20 in the paint.
Master's will now enjoy a break until after Christmas, when GSAC play will begin.
