2018 (Senior): The decorated veteran spent her final collegiate season setting up her teammates while leading the Mustangs to their first-ever GSAC regular season and tournament titles and the program’s first NAIA nationals appearance in five years … one of three on the team to play in a club-high 130 sets … paced the team with 701 assists and a career-high 58 aces that led the GSAC … recorded double figures in assists in all 36 matches, highlighted by a season-high 29 at Vanguard (CA) on Oct. 2 … finished her career second on the program’s all-time assists list with 2,773 … equaled a career-high with six aces twice: vs. La Sierra (CA) on Aug. 16 and at Life Pacific (CA) on Sept. 21 … her 165 career aces rank her fifth on the program’s all-time list … was second on the squad with a career-best 353 digs … had 10 digs or more in a match 19 times and registered a season-high 23 vs. Arizona Christian on Oct. 5 … named All-GSAC and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, each for the second time in her career.
2017 (Junior): The third-year setter continued to set up her teammates for kills while demonstrating lethal offensive and defensive skills … played in a team-high 111 sets and led the squad with 910 assists, the seventh-best, single-season mark in program history … posted double-figure assist totals in all of the club’s 28 matches, highlighted by a season-high 52 vs. Arizona Christian on Oct. 26 … had three other matches with 50 assists … her 2,072 career assists rank her fifth on the program’s all-time list … her 36 aces paced the squad and was the ninth-highest, single-season mark in program history … was second on the team with a career-high 259 digs … had a season-high 18 digs against Arizona Christian on Oct. 26.
2016 (Sophomore): Enjoyed a marvelous, break-out campaign that culminated in All-GSAC and NAIA All-American honors … played in the second-most sets (109) on the squad and paced the team and GSAC with 57 service aces, a new single-season program record, and 1,024 assists, the second-highest single-season mark in program history … reached double figures in assists in all 31 matches, averaging just over 33 per outing … had a season-high 50 assists vs. UC Merced on Sept. 3 and had seven other matches with 40 or more … had a season-best six service aces twice, against Arizona Christian on Sept. 17 and then vs. Hope International in the season finale on Nov. 8.
2015 (Freshman): Earned valuable playing time as part of the regular rotation in her first collegiate season, playing in 79 sets … finished second on the team with 138 assists … recorded 15 assists in her college debut vs. the University of Great Falls (Mont.) on Aug. 20, surpassed that mark with 24 against Montana State University-Northern on Aug. 28 and then posted a season-high 29 a day later vs. Montana Tech … finished the campaign with six double-digit assist outings … gave herself up for 103 digs, highlighted by a trio of eight-dig efforts … the first of those came on Aug. 20 vs. Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) … equaled that number in conference play against Vanguard on Sept. 22.
South Anchorage HS (Anchorage, Alaska): Named the Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year in 2014 after totaling 984 assists and 182 kills ... led the Wolverines to three state titles and one runner-up finish in four varsity seasons ... earned all-state honors as a junior and senior ... also competed in soccer, where she scored 22 goals with 11 assists as a senior, leading the Wolverines to their second straight state title ... led team to undefeated state title season in 2014.
Personal: Full name is Kayla Nicole Sims ... parents are Fred and Janice ... sister is Kelsey ... said she chose Master's because "I really enjoy the people, campus and volleyball program. Being surrounded by people who put God first in their lives was very important to me."
