2019 (Senior): Showing outstanding versatility by moving up the field, the veteran defender capped a decorated four-year career with an offensive game that produced a couple of postseason honors…became only the second player in program history to earn All-GSAC honors four times…that was followed by her second NAIA All-American honorable mention selection…established career-highs with six goals (tied for second on the team) and 13 points (tied for third on the squad)…scored twice, one of which was the game-winner, against Benedictine-Mesa (AZ) on Aug. 20…kicked in two more goals vs. William Jessup on Oct. 10…her sixth goal of the season, against Ottawa (AZ) on Nov. 2, proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 TMU victory…assisted on the game-winning goal against Truett McConnell (GA) in an NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round match on Nov. 22.
2018 (Junior): One of the nation’s elite defenders, she was the centerpiece of a defense that posted 10 shutouts … made 18 starts and has made 57 in her first three collegiate seasons … showing her value and endurance, she played a club-high 1,644 minutes … recognized by opposing coaches who picked her for All-GSAC accolades for the third straight season.
2017 (Sophomore): The leader of TMU's back line started all 22 games ... earned the second All-Golden State Athletic Conference honor of her career ... was named an NAIA All-American (honorable mention) ... was named GSAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 100-percent passing rate in a 1-0 overtime win over the University of Antelope Valley on Sept. 9 ... scored her first collegiate goal on Oct. 7 against Hope International ... recorded an assist on Sept. 28 against San Diego Christian ... led the Mustangs to nine shutouts on the year.
2016 (Freshman): Precocious defender played in 18 of 20 games (17 starts) ... earned All-GSAC honors ... led the team with three assists ... assists came in consecutive games on Aug. 27, Sept. 9 and Sept. 10, all Mustang wins ... led Master's to six shutouts on the year.
Federal Way HS (Federal Way, Wash.): Three-year varsity starter ... first-team all-league selection in the SPSL 4A North as a senior ... second-team selection as a junior ... competed at state in the 4x400-meter relay in 2015.
Personal: Full name is Kayla Renee Peterson ... parents are Mike and Shelly ... siblings are Alec, Cody and Jenna ... said she chose Master's based on "my experience with the team. They made me feel so welcome and a part of the team from the very beginning ... also the fact that I get to play soccer in California of course."
