2018-19 (Senior): The point guard capped off a sparkling three-year run at TMU with a prolific final season that put his name in the program’s record book…earned All-GSAC honors for the second year in a row and was a second-team NAIA All-American, moving up from honorable mention from the previous year…led the squad in scoring (17.5 ppg, sixth in the GSAC), assists (5.3 apg, first in the GSAC), steals (68, first in the GSAC), free throws made (130, third in the GSAC), and minutes played (34.7 mpg, third in the GSAC)…he finished second on the team and fifth in the conference in free throw percentage (82.8)…started all 33 games and scored in double figures in 31 of those…tallied a season-high 29 points vs. Bethesda on Nov. 13…drained a season-high for three-pointers (three) in a game on a trio of occasions…dished out a career-high 11 assists twice: vs. Westmont on Jan. 12 and against San Diego Christian on Feb. 9…had a career-high six steals vs. St. Katherine on Nov. 17…went 12-of-13 from the line vs. Menlo on Jan. 5...scored his 1,000th career point vs. San Diego Christian on Dec. 8 and finished his career with 1,403 points, which places him slightly outside the top 10 in Mustang program history…climbed to No. 6 in career free throw percentage (80.5%), No. 9 in career assists with 425, No. 9 in career steals with 142, and No. 10 in career three-pointers made with 144.
2017-18 (Junior): Thriving in his second year on the club and the first as a full-time starter, the dynamic guard put up career numbers on the way to All-GSAC and NAIA All-American honorable mention accolades … led the team in assists (4.3 per game, second in the GSAC) and free throw percentage (84.1, fourth in the GSAC), and finished second on the team in scoring (15.5 ppg, eighth in the GSAC) and three-pointers (57, seventh in the GSAC) … dished off five or more assists in a game 14 times … had a career-high nine assists against Antelope Valley on Dec. 29 … scored in double figures 25 time and equaled a career-high with 35 points against Vanguard on Feb. 24 when he went 11-for-14 from the field, including 5-of-5 from behind the arc, and 8-for-10 from the line … sank a career-best six 3-pointers in a game twice, against Alberta on Dec. 30 and at William Jessup on Feb. 1 … equaled a career-high with four steals vs. San Diego Christian on Feb. 8 and Arizona Christian two days later.
2016-17 (Sophomore):  Talented floor general was effective distributing the ball to teammates and stepping into his shots during his first year on the squad … started the first eight games of the season and then became a dynamic producer off the bench the rest of the way … averaged a dozen points a game and scored in double figures 17 times … tallied a career-high 35 points against West Coast Baptist on Nov. 5 when he went 13-for-18 from the field, highlighted by a quartet of 3-pointers … came off the bench to drain a season-high five treys en route to 23 points in a win over Westmont on Jan. 19 … hit four more threes on the way to 16 points in a NAIA Tournament second-round loss to Texas Wesleyan on March 17 … finished second on the squad with 50 3-pointers … dished out a team-high 122 assists, highlighted by a season-high 11 vs. Bethesda on Nov. 17 and vs. Benedictine of Kansas in a NAIA Tournament first-round game on March 16 … had 13 games with four or more assists …recorded a season-high four steals vs. Embry-Riddle of Arizona on Nov. 11.
Colombian Senior National Team: Played in four of Colombia's six games during qualifying for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup during the summer of 2018, averaging 18 points and 4.5 assists ... played more minutes than any player in the 16-team Americas qualifier, which featured former NBA players.Â
Liberty University:  Played one year for the NCAA Division I Flames, participating in 19 contests and averaging nearly nine minutes of action … averaged 1.5 points per game and dished out 17 assists.
Personal: Full name is Hansel Giovanny Atencia Suárez ... parents are Jairo and Luz ... siblings are Carmen and Kevin ... major is communication ... said he chose Master's because "I liked the environment of the school and the fact that the academics are really challenging. But what I saw more exciting about TMU was that the basketball team has a bright future and the coaching staff will help us with our development on and off the court."Â
