The Master's University men's soccer team tarted their Oregon road trip with a 1-1 tie against Southern Oregon on Thursday in Ashland, Ore.

Trent Rickard scored the lone goal for TMU in the second minute to give Master's the early 1-0 lead. Rickard finished with three shots and two of them were on goal. 

TMU was able to hold the lead until the 31st minute, when SOU got on the board and tied the game.

The game proved to be a chippy one, with six cautions between the two squads. TMU's Michael Masimango picked up his second yellow just after halftime, forcing TMU to go on with just 10 players on the field for the remainder of the game. 

"In terms of ties, this one is pretty positive," TMU Head Coach Jim Rickard said. "We were a man down for a lot of the second half and the guys executed the game plan perfectly after that. We had chances down the stretch but I'm still happy with how they played."

Southern Oregon continued to apply pressure to the TMU defense, out-pacing the Mustangs with 16 shots, compared to just five for TMU. But Franco Barba was able to secure five saves and keep SOU scoreless the entire second half. 

"There were a lot of positives from this game and now we just have to prepare and come back ready for Saturday," Coach Rickard said. 

Adiel Kaduya finished with two shots and TMU also recorded four corner kicks.

The Mustangs will be back in action against Oregon Tech on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
