The Master's University men's soccer team built an early two-goal lead and held on for a 3-2 win over Arizona Christian on Saturday afternoon at Reese Field.

Andrew Sorto led the Mustangs with a goal and an assist, and Zach Bates and Trent Rickard each scored. Franco Barba made seven saves in goal.

TMU struck twice in the first 16 minutes. Bates put the Mustangs ahead in the 10th minute off a Sorto assist with a beautiful bicycle kick, and Rickard scored in the 16th to make it 2-0. Arizona Christian cut the lead in half just before halftime on a Sammy Kopalyan goal in the 44th minute.

Sorto restored the two-goal cushion in the 62nd minute, finishing a pass from Rickard. The Firestorm answered in the 74th when Caleb Anderson scored off a Josh Flanagan assist. Rickard nearly put the game away in the 86th minute, but his shot hit the post. TMU's defense then held for the final 16 minutes.

TMU outshot Arizona Christian 24-16 and held an 11-3 edge in corner kicks. The Firestorm put nine shots on goal to TMU's eight, and Emiliano Vega made five saves for Arizona Christian.

Rickard led TMU with six shots, two on goal, and also had a shot hit the post in the 86th minute. Michael Masimango, Tyler Mora and Zenden Berbari each had three shots with one on goal. 

TMU (4-3-2, 3-1 GSAC) hosts Hope International on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. at Reese Field. The Royals beat the Mustangs 2-1 in Irvine on Sept. 17.
