The first round of the NAIA Women's Golf Championships had to be suspended due to thunderstorms coming through the area of Ypsilanti, Mich.
The championship, played at the Eagle Crest Golf Club, will now be shortened from a 72-hole tournament to a 54-hole with play resuming Wednesday morning.
Hannah Ulibarri, the lone representative from The Master's University playing in the championship, had completed the 10th hole of her opening round and is currently 4-over on the par-72 course.
"Very high winds and playing quite tough," said TMU Head Coach Luke Brueckner about the playing conditions when play was suspended. "Thankfully the greens and fairways were pretty soft due to the rain. But it's tough golf out there."
Fifteen players were able to finish their first round before the storms came in. Another 75 had yet to tee off to start their round. A total of 156 players will play in the first two rounds before the cut reduces the field to the top 15 teams (plus ties) and six independent players.
