The Master's baseball team split a pair of games with Arizona Christian Friday at Lou Herwaldt Stadium.
Game 1
Master's exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come from behind to defeat ACU 9-7 and get their first conference win of the season.
The Mustangs took advantage of a pair of walks and a hit batter by then getting a sac fly and four straight singles to get their big eighth inning.
Cooper Carter and
Ty Beck each walked, followed by
Jack Drew getting hit by the pitch.
Isaiah Morales hit a sac fly to score
Cole Rohlmeier.
Then with two outs in the inning,
Emilio Morales,
Matt Lloyd,
Scotty Pieper and
Korbin Hodgson each had RBI singles to account for TMU's comeback.
The Firestorm was able to get one back in the top of the ninth, but
Michael Chung came on to get the final out and get his first save of the season.
Kolby Jensen pitched 3.1 innings of relief after starter
Carson Knapp went 5.1, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and striking out six. For Jensen, it was his first collegiate win.
Pieper led the offense, going 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Game 2
The Master's saw a 2-1 lead vanish when Arizona Christian scored four runs in the top of the fifth to get a 6-2 win.
ACU started the scoring in the top of the second, but the Mustangs (11-13, 1-5) answered in the bottom half of the inning when
Dylan Taguiam's fielder's choice scored
Zac Heefner to make it 1-1.
TMU took the lead an inning later when Beck's single brought in Rohlmeier.
But the Firestorm answered that run by scoring one of their own in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 2-2.
An inning later is when ACU put four more on the board thanks to a pair of home runs.
Gage Webster got the start but took the loss, going 4.2 innings and giving up six earned runs while also striking out six.
Korbin Hodgson led the offense, going 2 for 3 at the plate.
The two teams will finish their 4-game series with another doubleheader Saturday at Lou Herwaldt Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
