The Master's University baseball team won both games on Friday at home against Embry-Riddle University, with the second game ending on a
Jack Drew RBI walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The first game was a Mustang blowout as they picked up an 11-1 win. Despite falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, TMU scored 11 straight runs in dominating fashion.
Ty Beck got the scoring started with his team-leading 10th homer to drive in
Cole Rohlmeier.
Isaiah Morales added another homer right after Beck, with a solo shot of his own. TMU would tack on another run with a walk with the bases loaded from
Scotty Pieper.
Gage Webster got the start for TMU and he continued to pitch well as he has all season. He went five innings and gave up one run on seven hits to hold ERAU offense in check. TMU added four more in the third off doubles from Beck and Morales and got three more in the sixth to close out a strong win.
The second game was much closer as it featured a pitching duel between
James Coker for TMU and Spencer Lanz for ERAU. Coker allowed just one hit in five innings but the Eagles were able to capitalize on the opportunity, scoring two runs to take the lead.
TMU was held scoreless for the majority of the contest, until Rohlmeier scored on an Eagle error on a pickoff attempt. Heading into the bottom of the seventh, TMU was down 2-1. But thanks to three singles, the bases were loaded for sophomore
Jack Drew. Drew laced the first pitch he saw over the head of the shortstop for a 2-run double, which won the game for TMU.
"Really thankful to the Lord for that one," TMU Head Coach
Monte Brooks said. "We executed well late in that game."
Michael Chung pitched 1.2 innings in relief of Coker and
Jace Russell picked up the win out of the pen.
TMU will play ERAU in the final game of the series on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. at home.
