The Master's University lost two baseball games to Hope International University on Friday in Fullerton, Calif., losing the first game 4-3 and the second 1-0.
Game 1
TMU jumped on HIU in the first inning with a
Jack Drew RBI groundout, scoring
Cole Rohlmeier. The Royals followed with a run in the next inning to tie the game a 1-1. The Master's got back on top with a sacrifice fly from Rohlmeier, however HIU added one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the lead.Â
Ty Beck crushed a double to to left center in the sixth to score
Owen Payn which evened the score at 3-3. However,
Michael Chung allowed the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the eight inning, which gave HIU the win.Â
James Coker allowed one earned run in four innings and struck out three.
Blake Russell had two hits in three trips and also scored a run.
Game 2
The second game of the day was much closer and was a pitching duel between TMU's
Gage Webster and Josh Landry for Hope International. Webster went six innings while giving up six hits and striking out eight. His only run that he gave up came off a ground-rule double in the second inning.
However, Landry delivered a gem as well on the mound for the Royals, strikeout out 13 Mustang batters in seven innings. He held TMU to just four hits and issued zero walks.Â
With the Mustang bats silenced for the most part, TMU had only one opportunity with runners in scoring position.
Jack Drew laced a double to left center and
Matt Lloyd added a single with only one out. But TMU stranded their runners, with Landry striking out two to end the inning.Â
TMU falls to 10-11 and 0-3 in GSAC play. The final game in their series against Hope International will be on Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
