Lady Mustangs drop road clash with BenU

The Master's University women's basketball team suffered a road loss to Benedictine Mesa 65-52 Thursday in Mesa, Ariz.

A dominant third quarter by the Redhawks proved to be the difference in the game as BenU outscored the Mustangs 21-10 over that stretch to take control.

The game was a close one out of the gate, with the first quarter score being separated by just three points. Allie Miller led the way with six points for the Mustangs. The second quarter was also tight as BenU closed down the lead and took a one-point advantage of their own heading into the break.

TMU shot 52% from the field in the first half and Chloe Auble had seven points at halftime.

However, the Redhawks would take control following the break. In that third quarter, TMU shot 26%, while BenU upped their shooting percentage to 53% to outscore TMU by 11. The Master's also turned the ball over five times in the third period.

"Tough loss in a true road game," Coach Wilson said. "We dug ourselves a hole in that third quarter and never came back from it."

TMU tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but going 4 of 18 in the final frame doomed any chance at a Lady Mustang comeback.

"On the bright side, we can use this loss as a good way to grow and learn things from it," Coach Wilson said. "We're gonna take it one game at a time."

Auble finished with 13 points, while Ella Hoover also score 13 in the second start of her career.

The Master's will compete next against Park Gilbert on Saturday in Gilbert, Ariz.
