The Master's University men's volleyball team got another win over Concordia University Irvine in straight sets on Saturday in The MacArthur Center.
TMU just played CUI on Thursday, a road game that they won in four sets, but they faced the Golden Eagles on Saturday night at home and won 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.Â
Isaac Seltzer had 13 kills to lead the team and also recorded five digs and six blocks.
The first set was tightly contested, until a 6-1 TMU run gave them a 21-13 lead that they would not relinquish. CUI tried to get back into the set but a kill from
Andrew Karges sealed the opening set win. Karges had a well-rounded game with five kills, three digs and two service aces.Â
The second set was also close, and it remained that way as TMU clung to a 2-point lead with the score at 20-18. But a Golden Eagle service error, a kill from
Trace Oswald and one of Karges' service aces gave TMU a 23-18 lead that they would not give up. Seltzer slammed the door with a kill and put TMU in the driver's seat, up 2-0.Â
CUI battled in the final set, trying to force a fourth frame but TMU put the pressure on early, leading 9-4. The Golden Eagles narrowed the gap to just two points at 23-21 and eventually 24-23 off a TMU service error. But Oswald, who totaled eight kills throughout the game, was there to halt the rally with his game-winning kill.
TMU was efficient on offense, hitting .297 across all three sets and notching nine blocks and six service aces.
The Master's will play next against Vanguard University on Friday, Feb. 20 in Costa Mesa, Calif.
