The Master's University men's basketball team went on the road and defeated Life Pacific 70-60 on Saturday in San Dimas, Calif.
Avery Jackson notched 23 points on nine of 19 shooting from the field and with five rebounds.Â
TMU built an early lead in the first half, leading by margins like 19-10 and 27-16.
Tiago Soares was a big reason why, as he totaled 12 points in the first half. Soares, coming off a career-high 34 points against La Sierra, continued his momentum into Saturday's game, making five of seven from the floor and two of his three attempts from beyond the arc.Â
However, in the final moments of the first half, Life Pacific cut into the deficit. They brought TMU's 11-point lead down to just three points at 37-34 entering the halftime break. The Master's shot the ball well at 48% but were being outdone by Life Pacific, who shot 52% from the field in the first half.Â
Both teams cooled off significantly in the second half, with both teams shooting below 40%. There was only two 3-point makes from both teams combined in the second half, with TMU going 1-11 and LPU going 1-13. LPU had massive struggles from beyond the arc, shooting just two for 20 for the entire game.
The difference in the game was in the free throw shooting. The Master's was much more aggressive and made it to the charity stripe 17 times, making 14 of them. LPU only attempted four free throws in the second half and wasn't able to reclaim the lead for the rest of the game. The closest the Warriors got was at 49-45 with 12 minutes left but TMU was able to extend their lead to double digits and hold off LPU for the rest of the game.
Brayden Miner had 11 points on two 3-point makes while
Jazen Guillory had five points, four rebounds and two steals.
The Master's will play NAIA No. 9 Hope International next at home on Tuesday.
